St. John’s’ first Night Light Walk Supports Survivors of Domestic Violence

St. John’s recently hosted its first Royal LePage Shelter Foundation Night Light Walk on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2026, to raise awareness about intimate partner violence and support people affected by it.

The event was organized locally by Royal LePage Atlantic Homestead and presented by TD. The three-kilometre night walk brought people together to support Iris Kirby House, which helps those experiencing domestic violence. Participants gathered at 6 p.m. at the Bannerman Park Bandstand, with the lantern-lit walk starting at 7 p.m.

The Night Light Walk initiative helps raise awareness and funds for women and children affected by intimate partner violence. The event has been held in other communities across Canada, and this was the first Night Light Walk organized in St. John’s.

Participants were able to create or join a team and fundraise in support of Iris Kirby House by raising at least $125 or making a one-time donation. Royal LePage Atlantic Homestead also supports Iris Kirby House through fundraising events, and its agents donate a portion of their commissions from home sales to the organization. Money raised through the walk will directly support its work in the local community.

The Royal LePage Shelter Foundation has raised more than $57 million since 1998, with the funds exclusively dedicated to supporting women’s shelters. It currently supports 200 local women’s shelters and intimate partner violence prevention programs.
