Local Club Raises Relief Funds for Newfoundland Communities

The Cambridge Newfoundland Club in Ontario, with deep roots in Newfoundland, is holding a community event on August 30 to raise funds for those affected by destructive wildfires back east.

As parts of Newfoundland are being destroyed by wildfires, the Cambridge Newfoundland Club is organizing and uniting the community to raise money for relief efforts that will be sent home. The funds raised will be directed to the Conception Bay North area, where most of the wildfires are still burning, including Salmon Cove, Adam’s Cove, Carbonear, and Kingston. Conception Bay is on the eastern coast of Newfoundland, not far from St. John’s.

The Club is holding a benefit dance on Saturday, Aug. 30, featuring live music by Cobby’s Kitchen Party, DJ Music Mania, and raffle prizes. All proceeds will go toward relief efforts to help those affected by the wildfires in Newfoundland this summer.

Newfoundland and Labrador is still in a state of emergency, with some communities under evacuation orders because of the Kingston wildfire, which has burned more than 10,000 hectares. Cambridge, Ontario, has a large Newfoundland community due to migration in the 1960s. The event starts at 8 p.m. at 1500 Dunbar Rd., and tickets are available at 519-241-1006 or at Off The Rock on Oxford Street.
