The Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital Auxiliary recently donated $600,000 to the Moose Jaw Health Foundation (MJHF) as part of the foundation’s “Vision of Tomorrow” campaign, which aims to raise $825,000 this year. The funds will help the regional hospital acquire new equipment and offer more surgeries, thereby reducing wait times for patients. The Moose Jaw Health Foundation is committed to ensuring that Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital is equipped to meet the growing demand for medical services in the local community, as it currently performs over 4,000 surgeries each year.
The Vision of Tomorrow campaign was launched to address the increasing need for surgeries at Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital. Last year, about 4,600 surgeries were performed, marking a 41% increase over the previous two years. The current surgical equipment is outdated, and the funds raised will be used to upgrade to the latest state-of-the-art equipment. The health foundation aims to raise $825,000 for new equipment, including the Stryker System, which helps medical professionals navigate complex surgeries with advanced cameras, monitors, and tools. Having the latest equipment improves health outcomes, reduces downtime, and is essential for advancing surgery in the community.
The new surgical system at Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital is made possible by a $600,000 donation from Jack and Ruby Radu’s estate, along with support from the Moose Jaw Regional Hospital Auxiliary. This contribution will equip all four operating theatres at the hospital. The Radus’ generosity, driven by their commitment to community support, will benefit 23,000 surgeries over the next five years. For around 1,200 patients visiting the hospital daily, these additions are crucial. The Foundation is dedicated to bringing the best medical equipment to Moose Jaw.
An additional $225,000 is to be raised through events like the Festival of Trees to buy scanners and scoping equipment. This campaign will also help recruit and retain medical professionals, enhance local healthcare, and reduce the need for patients to travel.
